Due to our kids being in CYO soccer, we are currently unable to attend Latin Mass at St. Pius X. This is a source of great distress to me as any Latin Mass devotee will surely empathize with. So, today, we attended Padre Pio Shrine here, a new parish that was established in 2001. It is a very modern and unattractive architechtural edifice, much like a strip mall or medical clinic type building. Anyhow, the Mass was a Novus Ordo nightmare. It was as bad as it gets. Youth Choir with piano player lead singer and electronic drummer to give all the reorchestrated prayers and hymns a pop groove. They have two gigantic screens on either side that display via a projector the lyrics to hymns, as well as the weekly bulletin which was displayed before and after Mass. It was neat to be honest, but as you might guess, highly distracting and not conducive to any form of reverence. There were females dressed immodestly in abundance, shorts, flip flops, the gamut. Half the church bailed after Communion. It was pathetic, real chaff ready for the fire.
At any rate, I love Padre Pio, and decided to do a little more reading and study on one of my favorite stigmatists. At a minimum I wanted to at least slow the rate of turns that the Blessed Saint is rolling in his grave after this travesty of a Mass being said at the Shrine that bears his name. Wikipedia indicates that he continued to say the Latin Mass until his death with permission from Pope Paul VI due to his ill health. That is comforting to me in many ways. So I found a few videos of Padre Pio, Part 4 has video of his last Mass, what a beautiful thing.
Saint Padre Pio, please help restore the Latin Mass throughout the world. Help us correct errors in our beloved Church. Saint Padre Pio, pray for us.
